Their goal was to make this room into a playroom/rec room/TV room so that they could hang out downstairs. My sister wanted to use what she had instead of buying anything new; and what she had was, well, old stuff. Think furniture circa 1950 and a couch and loveseat that were covered in a navy blue fabric with hot pink accents. Yikes! But that's what we were stuck with, and I was determined to make it work!
First we decided on a color, and since they wanted this to be a TV room we decided we'd do a chocolate brown on the walls and accent with bright artwork and throw pillows.
Then we took on the furniture; these were the pieces she had.

We call the the "ark of the covenant" end tables. Ha! There was also a matching coffee table as well as this Queen Anne high boy.

We decided to go completely black with these pieces. We used Krylon spray paint and went to town in her garage, and this was the result:

We bought khaki colored slip covers at WalMart for the couch and loveseat, as well as some bright throw pillows and some 8x10 frames with white mattes for pictures of her kids. These pictures aren't the best in the world (and please ignore my un-ironed slipcovers! Yikes!) but here is how the room turned out!
